Description

This course is designed for rising sophomores at Jesuit High School and will focus on major turning points that shaped the modern world.  The time period being addressed will range from the fourteenth century up to the world wars.  Students will trace the rise of democratic ideas and develop an understanding of the historical roots of current world issues, especially as they pertain to international relations.  The international topics of this time period will be analyzed in their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural contexts.  Multiple accounts of events will be considered in order to understand a variety of perspectives, with an ever-present emphasis on the big picture.  Students may elect to take a full year or one-semester option. Students may take the first semester for three weeks (June 11-June 28 OR July 1- July 19) or two semesters for six weeks (June 11-July 19).  Indicate your choice below.
